When purchasing shoes for Argentine Tango, there are a number of things that you should look for to ensure your investment elevates your dancing to a new level.
The most important thing to ensure when you’re buying new tango shoes is that your shoes fit properly. If your foot slides around in your shoe, your balance will be off and you won’t be able to move as swiftly as is often necessary. The best way to test this is to try on a pair of shoes, and for women, walk backwards since that’s often your position while dancing. If your foot moves at all in the shoe, then it’s too big. If it pinches and is uncomfortable, then it’s too small.

Next, try pivoting in the shoe you’re trying on. You should be able to grip the floor while still swivelling easily. You should never feel out of control when you pivot. Your foot also shouldn’t move or slide as you complete this test.

When it comes to the heel of your shoe, men and women who are just starting out should wear a lower heeled shoe in order to provide substantial support when dancing. For all dancers, a centered heel is extremely important for support and comfort. You should easily be able to stand on one foot when wearing your tango shoes.

You should also ensure that when you move your foot quickly, the shoe won’t fall off. Make sure that the straps that cover your foot are significant enough to keep it comfortably on your foot as you dance.

Purchasing a pair of tango dance shoes, whether they are your first or your tenth, should not be taken lightly. iLoveDanceShoes is able to customize dance shoes – not only the colour – but the material and heel height in order to fit the needs of every dancer, at every level.
