The Glitz, the Glam: La Classique 2019!
Posted on January 17 2019
It’s almost time for La Classique du Québec -- the most prestigious dance championship in Canada! From February 14th to 17th the crème de la crème of talented dancers from all over the world will take to the floor at the Hotel Bonaventure in downtown Montreal. Whether you come to dance or to spectate, this is an event you do not want to miss. If you’re participating, don’t forget to order your shoes as soon as possible to ensure you receive them in time!
A World Dance Council (WDC) ranking event, La Classique is open to professionals, amateurs, pro-am, seniors, and juniors in both International and American Styles. Dancers may also compete as same-sex couples.
As always, there is an incredible Pro show on Thursday night. This year’s performance stars Ina Ivanova Jeliazkova and Troels Bager! Both Troels and Ina discovered a passion for dancing at a young age. Ina was born in Bulgaria and began dancing at the age of 11 after trying many different sports. Troels was born in Denmark and started dancing at the age of 3.
The pair met in 2004 though they did not begin dancing together until 2005. It began when Ina decided to move from Bulgaria to Denmark in order to develop her career as a dancer. She had a try-out with Morten Lowe and also met Troels, who was there as well. The two kept in contact, though dancing with other people, and eventually they were both without a partner. Finding time to get together for a try-out was difficult, but they eventually decided they had to do it and met up in Vienna. Conditions were less than ideal: they had little space since they were dancing in a corridor…and they were dancing on a concrete floor (and all the dancers cringed).
Conditions aside, it was obvious to the pair that this was it. So a year and a half after they first met, a partnership was formed.
Since beginning their career together in 2005, the pair have taken the dance world by storm. They are the current Blackpool, International and UK Open Amateur Latin Champions. Not to mention that they are also two-time WDC World Amateur Champions in 2012 and 2013. They now dance in Professional and most recently competed at the WDC AL Open World Championships 2018 - Fred Astaire Cup Professional Latin in Paris, France on Saturday, December 8th 2018. They are currently ranked as 4th in the world and 3rd in the USA.
All that to say: prepare to be mesmerized.
Naturally, iLoveDanceShoes will be there to share in the excitement. There’s no way we’d miss this. We’ll be there with a booth throughout the entire competition, ready to answer your questions...and with an array of the most stylish and comfortable dance shoes for you try on. We’ll see you there!
(...is it February yet???)
