All Things Salsa: A Prep Guide for the Montreal Salsa Convention 2019
The hottest event of the summer is BACK. Yes, the Montreal Salsa Convention is ready to burn up the floor for its 15th edition. And we. Cannot. Wait.
So we’ve put together a “Preparation Guide” to help get you oriented in all things Salsa (the dance, not the dip). Read on!
THE EVENT
This year the Montreal Salsa Convention will be turning up the heat at the newly renovated Double Tree by Hilton Montreal (formerly the Hyatt Regency Hotel) from May 16th to the 20th 2019. It’s all Latin, all the time, with tons of workshops offered in Salsa, Bachata, Zouk, Kizomba, and more. There are free activities (shows as well as dance classes), competitions for amateurs and pros, and dancing all night with some of the hottest DJs such as Henry Knowles from New York, Sam Haddad from Montreal, and DJ Ly also from Montreal (our local talent is HOT. Just sayin’.).
Adding to the lineup are some hot hot HOT National and International stars, like Strazzero and Issam Coluna from Montreal, Hayley & Miguel from Ottawa, Luis & Anya from NYC, and Tito & Tamara from Puerto Rico. And these are only some of the names in attendance. Seriously. Get your tickets, people.
Other highlights include a night of cocktails and social dancing on Thursday -- with none other than DJ Henry Knowles -- the Latin Dance Showcase and Rising Stars on Friday, a Gala Show Saturday night with special VIP Cocktails, and National/International Shows Sunday night.
The event is hosted by the Canadian Salsa Dance Corporation a non–profit organization that promotes music, dance, and Latin culture while bringing together a multi-ethnic audience. Their goal is to inform and educate amateur artists as well as semi-professional dancers, and to provide a networking space for the developing artist.
And we’ll be there. For all of it. Our booth will be located in the Opera Foyer outside of the Grand Salons, Level 4 at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel:
Friday, May 17th: 18:00 to 24:00
Saturday, May 18th: 10:00 to 24:00
Sunday, May 19th:10:00 to 24:00
Come talk salsa and dance shoes with us -- we’ll help you find that perfect customized pair that will take your dancing to the next level.
DANCE SHOES
If you are new to Salsa dancing, you’re going to need shoes. And choosing the right pair of Salsa shoes is different from choosing street shoes. If you’re wondering what the differences are and why those differences matter, check out How to Choose the Right Salsa Shoe. Let us help you find that perfect fit!
ORIGINS OF SALSA
There is not just one style of Salsa. There is not just one place of origin. Salsa has a rich and varied culture and if you’d like to learn more, check out Hot Hot HOT: A Look at the Origins of Salsa.
